Only Constant is Change

“The only constant is change”. I think I saw that quote on a Volcom backpack once.

New year, new haircut, new job, new residence…all calls for a new blog post. Last week I started a new job as a live in personal assistant. Just as a disclaimer, at first it’s going to sound like some sketch Craigslist craziness, but it’s actually very wonderful, so un-scrunch your face as you read, and read it all the way through.

I’m currently working as a personal assistant for a guy who got into a mountain biking accident 2 years ago and is now confined to a wheelchair. He’s recovered wonderfully and continues to work toward complete recovery every day by going to physical therapy. As his assistant, I live on the top floor of his house (his parents live there as well), and we basically get to hang out during the day, go to physical therapy, and get to partake in culinary adventures. In the evenings I’m still able to continue school. It’s pretty much the perfect schedule.

My new boss and roommate, let’s call him DJ, graduated from SLO a few years ago, where he studied nutritional science, and later was a sushi chef for some time. I’m learning a lot more from him than I could ever imagine, and I’m looking forward to this new adventure and phase of my life.

DJ lessons for today:
Focus on what you have, not what you don’t have

This is such a simple statement, but so important. We often hear “you don’t know what you have until you lose it”, but why do you have to lose something in order to value it?
