The week of the dining out, I was stressing all over the place. Boyfriend's dad told me: "Think of this as a pretest for your wedding day, just relax". Uh oh. I told Boyfriend what his dad said, and told him, that I'm about to fail this test. However, after a couple of pep talks with myself and a reprimand from Boyfriend to just CALM DOWN!, things got better.
Army girlfriends and I went to go get our hair done together. They asked me if it was for prom. Do I LOOK like I'm 16? Sadly, the answer is probably: yes! I gave the hairstylist free reign to do as she pleased, and I ended up looking like something out of the set of Pearl Harbor. It was different, but it was absolutely perfect for the occasion.
It was a social gathering of cadets who were awkward in their clothing, ladies who were awkward in heels, with mediocre food and way too many speeches, but despite all of that, it made for a great night. While others were sighing and wistfully regretting that they had not spent so much time and money on this event, I was blissfully at home in this environment: rubbing elbows, talking about bases and care packages, and rolling our eyes at how our boys only talked about the Army, while hanging onto said boys with pride.
