Scattered Selves

Remnants of my life are scattered about the apartment, each of them reflecting a different facet of my life.

A wine key and an apron from working at the restaurant. The server.

A NASB opened to Psalm 34, a silk ribbon keeping its spot. The Christian.

An Associated Press stylebook with the newest edition of the campus paper shoved between pages. The journalist.

Print outs of itineraries, adorned with scribbled notes and post-its, on top of binders of local entertainers. The event planner.

A flour-ful apron, hung carelessly on a kitchen cupboard. The hostess.

This Frankenstein of a personality has not just recently been created, but rather, has been cultivated very purposefully through the years.

The only two questions left to ask myself are:

1) Is each role done well?

2) What roles do I want to play?

And by answering those questions, I know – that above all, I am happy. Blessed. Excited and ready.

The climber, the student, the girlfriend, the chef, the daughter, the sister, the friend. These aren't roles...they are you.
